The Apple Certified Technical Coordinator (ACTC) certification verified a foundation in OS X and OS X Server. Apple chose to retire the ACTC with the introduction of MacOS 10.11 El Capitan. This likely coincided with:
- moving specific OS X Server services to the Mac OS
- halting Apple Airport W-IFI product development and reassigning dept. staff to other divisions
This aligns with Apple’s new strategy of relying upon 3rd party WI-FI and data storage/sharing vendors to fill the void while they concentrated on their core product line.
In place of the ACTC apple now offers the Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) certification. I have successfully achieved this certification comprised of:
- Mac Integration Basics Exam: verifies an understanding of the ways to integrate a Mac within a Windows or other standards-based network.
- CWNP CWT-100 exam: Certified Wireless Technician. Vendor neutral certification verifying design, configuration, testing and troubleshooting wireless LANs (WLAN).
- macOS Support Essentials exam: verifies that you understand macOS core functionality and that you can configure key services, perform basic troubleshooting, and support multiple Mac users.
I plan to take the CWT exam by CWNP by end of MAY. How difficult is that exam? Any specific topics to look out for?
As with any exam, it helps if you have real world experience with the subject matter. I found the topic fascinating, and is very relevant if you perform wifi network installations or expansions.
