The New & Improved MacBook Air

The New & Improved MacBook Air

The MacBook Air has come a long way from it’s humble beginnings, to the extent that we recommend and configure them for use cases that would have been the sole purview of the MacBook Pro in past years.

Features that both HB Technology solutions and our customers love:

1) True Tone technology-as if a high definition edge-to edge Retina Display on an entry level laptop wasn’t enough, the color temperature of the display now automatically adjusts for a more comfortable viewingexperience depending on your ambient lighting.

2) Touch Bar-another “must-have” feature that has made it’s way down the Apple laptop food chain. It’s hard for us to live without the added convenience of this touch display strip at the top of the keyboard.

3) Wide stereo sound with twice the bass and 25 percent more volume

4) Touch ID-Touch ID sensor is seamlessly integrated into the power button so MacBook Air unlocks with the touch of a finger (not as cool as the facial recognition technology on the new iOS devices, but still alot faster and more convenient than entering passwords!)

5) Apple T2 Security Chip-Apple combined a number of separate chips into one, bringing a new level of security to Touch ID data and providing the foundation for new encrypted storage and secure boot capabilities.

Finally, the Achilles Heel across many of the Mac laptops has been the keyboard–prone to failure and a less than appealing tactile feel. An updated “butterfly” keyboard resolves the issues of tactile feel (from first-hand experience) and fingers crossed brings with it greater reliability.

New Apple Airport Update, Oh My!

New Apple Airport Update, Oh My!

In a surprise move, Apple issued the 7.8.1 update for the Airport Apple 802.11N networking line of products-it’s first in over 18 months. Even more compelling is the fact that the Airport WIFI hardware product line was discontinued in April 2018. It includes support for Apple Airplay 2, vital to folks who connect an Airport Express to an old reciever to sync music to HomePods or Apple TV 4s. It also includes a slew of security fixes. Apple promised to continue offering service and parts for AirPort Base stations for the next five years, which includes firmware updates to address security issues. Pretty amazing service.

iWork Updates

iWork Updates

There are certain products Apple lets languish for quite some time between product updates. We were thrilled to see the new MacPro make it’s debut at the Apple World Wide Developer’s Conference recently. Now we get a much needed update to Apple’s Office Productivity Suite: iWork. Take that Microsoft Office!

Adobe attempts to force its customers to upgrade to newer more expensive versions

We support a number of individual visual artists and Mom & Pop design studios. The lion’s share are not well to do, so we have used every resource at our disposal to keep their initial purchase of Adobe Creative Suite 6 software operational despite increasing compatibility issues with each successive release of the MacOS. New Apple computer purchases limit you to running the MacOS available at the time of purchase and newer only. We find Adobe’s newest policy not only very troubling but question the legality of forcing users to migrate to the newer subscription-based version of their product.
